NORTHERN DOC

Exploring …

… the intersections of behaviour, stress, body composition, social determinants of health, the built environment, and wellness.

MY INTERESTS AND VALUES

I am a General Internist working for over two decades in northern Canada. My practice covers the spectrum of inpatient and outpatient GIM. This includes ICU care, bronchoscopy, preoperative care, inpatient & outpatient GIM, and management of implantable cardiac rhythm devices (Pacemakers, ICDs, CRT, etc.).

Aside from my traditional practice, I have strong interests in the relationships between behaviour, stress, body composition, and health – inspired to a great degree by Aaron Aronovsky’s work and theories on salutogenesis (the origins of well being).

I also promote population based approaches to health as advocated by Geoffrey Rose, and support community interventions seeking to impact on social determinants of health and the built environment.

I believe that community approaches to promote well-being are synergistic with holistic clinical approaches: their combined yield is much greater than either approach alone.
